Music at Manchester plays a vital role in the cultural life of the city, and has been taught and studied at The University of Manchester for over a hundred years. Both the 1996 and the 2001 Research Assessments gave Music at Manchester the very highest rating, giving them the longest standing 6* status, shared with only two other music departments in Great Britain.
